OK, you got me: my music class consists of wiggling to nursery rhymes, my art class consists of fingerpainting more on my face than on the paper, and soccer consists of wearing a uniform and stomping on bubbles on a soccer field. Winter has also brought sledding, which I cannot get enough of.

I am in a bit of a bossy stage... but Mom and Dad have taught me to be polite about it. Instead of pushing Dad and screaming "MOVE;" instead of yelling at Mom to "TURN LIGHT ON;" I scream "MOVE PEASE" and yell "TURN LIGHT ON PEASE."

Halloween and Christmas were both wonderful adventures. I went trick or treating with all of the neighborhood kids and learned of my now-favorite treat --- suckers. Christmas was all the magic it is supposed to be for a little one. A tall Christmas tree with soft ornaments at the bottom that I could take off and put back on myself; the smell of cookies and cider mulling; and, most of all, all of my family around me. And, of course, Santa brought me wonderful presents for Jesus' birthday :)--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-83790121383332898252008-10-06T11:06:00.000-07:002008-10-06T11:24:15.172-07:00Happy Half-Birthday to me!Dad, Mom and I are pretty much all settled into our La Grange house... and I am loving it. The Brookfield Zoo is less than 10 minutes away and Dad takes me there at least once a week. I love to brush the goats in the petting zoo, watch the Bears, and dig up veggies and get my face painted at the family play zoo. I also have started some classes - a music class with Mom and a storytime class with Dad. At my music class, my favorite game is freeze... the teacher plays the music but then it stops and we all have to freeze; I throw my arms out, fingers spread, and yell "FRIS" every time this happens.

I am talking so much now - I can repeat almost any word that you ask me to and I've even started putting some words together. I have a hard time with some of the longer words, but I improvise by saying the first syllable and then sort of babbling. Like "blueberry" is "bloo-brababuh." My favorite word is "hi" (shouted incessantly at the neighbors until they respond), with "no" coming in as a close second. My other favorite activity is animal sounds - next time you see me, ask me how the lion goes!

Halloween is coming up; I am going to be a cowgirl. The neighbor kids want to pull me around in their wagon, converted to a covered wagon. Can't wait to try this "candy" everyone is raving about!

Thanks again for checking in with me - talk to you in a couple months.--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-25437748730161631522008-07-10T06:58:00.000-07:002008-12-11T04:05:08.447-08:00Growing Up Fast!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2xVTLrRsC92NffCA8Qy4Y0H1vERGkBaknxAPshhcrhNfG43DLPBkGIVJKSWMb59rdDQMjIL1p5Jf0mG6qMHF-q6F8mx7A6D7rqGjkfVdxu9OavuiPow03Te82iksszHZJBQIjcoAiSZU/s400/D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5221388734494506306" />
In the past 3 months, I have gone from a baby to a little kid. I run like a kid, play like a kid, talk like a kid, eat like a kid, (whine like a kid)...

There was a major change in my life over the past 3 months. Mom and Dad moved out of our Bucktown palace to... THE SUBURBS! I think this might have been my fault because they didn't have enough space for all of the new toys I got for my birthday. We live in a house in downtown LaGrange now. The house is right by the train tracks, and I love to watch the trains with Dad and wave bye-bye to them as they fly past. I have lots of great neighbors that are kids - the neighbors next door share their kiddie pool, balls, and sandbox.

Speaking of play... my favorite 2 places in the world right now are the park and the beach. Mom showed me how to push the waves back into Lake Michigan as they come splashing up my legs. As for parks, I love any of them as long as they have a slide.

I am still quite the little eater - not much has changed there. My favorite food is crackers (pronounced "Kah-kuh"). I had pizza for the first time about a week ago and that was quite a hit.

I have become a book and music lover; just like Mom and Dad. I will sit with my books for a long time flipping the pages and naming the animals that I know the words for. My favorite song is Itsy-bitsy Spider. My Grandma Barb taught me all the signs.

I hope the past 3 months have been good for everyone. Thanks again for keeping up with me!--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-73706597632460556652008-04-07T10:59:00.000-07:002008-12-11T04:05:08.666-08:00Happy Birthday To Me!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVpTId5KNS7RPHRd5T8jIu_fYkJihjGyv3jzwhbs3NXYYaXzAD4NvAaKnd6Llme0PBKjiBYYwwynP0rRqKldplGmEgLp66awa3MZZEGedSc5y2MpMOGf_ekdjAE4QMMiEMLbABqqXox44/s400/bday.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186566575105383986" />
Friday was my first birthday. It was an exciting day. I went out for tacos at Arturo's for lunch, which was really just an excuse to go out for the greatest thing I have ever eaten - ICE CREAM. I had my first ever ice cream sundae - a vanilla sundae with sprinkles at Margies Candies. At first, I took a few polite bites off the spoon, but when I realized how good it was, there was no stopping me from shoving my little hands right in. After ice cream, we went to the Shedd Aquarium. This was my first time going to the Shedd after learning to walk, which made it tons more fun. I spent at least a half hour walking back and forth between the sharks and stingrays.

It's amazing how quickly a year goes by. One year ago, I was a 7.5 pound baby that couldn't do much of anything. Now, I am a 22 pound toddler walking around, saying words (especially DOG lately), giving hugs, reading books, waving hi and bye, dancing to my favorite tunes, splashing in the bath, eating huge meals, and lots more things that I can't even think of right now. Thanks for keeping updated on this amazing year in my life... I can't wait to show you what's coming up next for me!--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-32835462138869815762008-03-28T15:15:00.001-07:002008-03-28T15:21:30.125-07:00First StepsI had taken a few steps here and there, but my first official "walk" was on March 15, 2008, which is when Mom shot this video. Well, no. Not really. I've taken a few steps here and there but nothing to whip out the camcorder over. BUT... I learned an even better skill this month. I learned how to give HUGS. I find the closest parent or grandparent and wrap my little arms around their legs, necks, whatever I can reach. Mom says this is hands-down her favorite development so far.

I had a very busy month this month. I got my first haircut, visited my Wing grandparents in Arizona, and visited the McLaughlins/Cregos in Nashville (those are the last few pics on my website). I learned how to go down a slide all by myself this month, too. I crawled up the 5 steps by myself, I crawled through the tunnel leading to the slide by myself, then I turned around backwards and slid down by myself. I also started dancing to my "Be My Baby" singing doll. As soon as Dad gets a video of the swim move I do with my shoulders, I'll post it on the blog.

The highlight of my day continues to be mealtimes. I pretty much eat whatever Mom and Dad are eating. Dad makes me lots of steamed vegetables and chicken. My favorite foods are fruits, especially whole apples (after someone takes a starter bite out of it for me).--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-89354671025425978832008-02-19T14:17:00.000-08:002008-12-11T04:05:09.229-08:00I like bread<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhyphenhyphenMm1gMG9UzrBSO7MrmUTyWZHQTZOkHWpoqG4NtX1kE8-aQDy0TcRTjqfagKFPfsW9-45eXg_h2RBAFjL4aFrn0xBObWaFwKe0mf0o3L9qexT29spwx0tpMmkBPBw8tM2Ivi8gUjQdeg/s400/Bread.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5168819153959938514" />
OK, OK, I know that I should be cutting down on the carbs... with my thigh rolls, chubby cheeks and all. A couple of days ago, my Mom was giving me a bath when Dad walked in the room. I stood up, pointed at him, and said "Da-da." Mom and Dad gasped, Dad left the room, then came back a minute or two later. When Dad came back, I pointed again, and said "Da-da" again. I'm so brilliant ;) Next up, Sudoku.

After 10 months of Mom and Dad futilely using sign language, I have finally learned the sign for milk. Otherwise, I spend most of my time pointing, babbling, and mimicking Mom and Dad. I enjoyed my first Superbowl (Yea Giants!) and even got to eat some of the snacks my Grandma Barb made - cheese, veggies, bread. My latest favorite activity is climbing the stairs. Whenever I'm at a grandma or grandpa's house, I love to crawl up the stairs (with a grown-up following behind me, of course). Then, I back down and do it again.--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-36692682977972098572008-01-23T11:06:00.000-08:002008-12-11T04:05:09.496-08:00Poll - First Words???<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5cyFWiRYW4ry7pOXIkevglI6irq3mdIlH9PHF39SO5xcK1rIU0kFOaygmgXHQdCMkeAeGqm-fcXZGDDHYeH8mwW6msBOcc54zFKbBDPLsjyQMxRaNsRlWSLUNIkJ85Gk8xYZT2ilaNcs/s400/images%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5158751522089776770" />
Every time Mom or Dad brings out my favorite book, Brown Bear by Eric Carle, I say "Buh, Buh." But when I learn one of those little things, it's a big deal! Do any of you remember when you learned to turn a page on a book? I do - I learned this month. Do any of you remember when you learned to wave? I do - I learned this month. Do any of you remember when you learned to eat a cookie? I do - I learned this month. Sure, I'm not doing algebra quite yet, but my parents are pretty proud just the same.

My favorite book is Brown Bear. Mom or Dad hold the pages down while they read each page, but as soon as they let me, I turn to the next page and get to see a new animal on every page. I am also really interested in seeing other kids playing. And my favorite thing to do is smile and laugh and show off my shiny new teeth - all four of them.

I spent my first Thanksgiving at my Granmmy's in Michigan. I got to eat real Thanksgiving dinner - turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots, and pumpkin - all mashed up in the blender. And then I got to play with a turkey leg. I'm getting excited about my first Christmas. I'm hearing something about a fat man in a red suit and NEW TOYS. This is going to be good...--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-70920790166862978182007-11-05T12:40:00.000-08:002007-11-05T12:52:55.860-08:007 MonthsNow that I am crawling, the world is a different place. I am all over my house now, crawling under tables, crawling over to Cade's bed, crawling into the closet to play with Mom and Dad's shoes, you name it. I love to crawl up to the full-length mirror, but sometimes I get a little too close to it and bonk my head. At the park I can crawl after pigeons. I'm starting to learn what a big place the world is; and it's a little overwhelming. Like at the zoo... I love watching little things, like fish swimming or the small monkeys swinging in their cage. But there are some really big things, like elephants, that I just don't even look at. They are so big that I can't even really get my head around the concept that they're there. So I just look the other way and focus on something more my size, like the tag on my blanket or a piece of fuzz on the ground.

Eating has become one of the funnest parts of my day. My favorite foods are Yo Baby yogurt and organic squash that my neighbor, Miss Amy, roasted and pureed for me. Next up, finger foods.--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-11651186747413762842007-11-01T08:04:00.000-07:002008-12-11T04:05:10.110-08:00Trick or Treat<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiirr5ebqPEGEU0RIYis_NiuFLMsnHRlGuBQr6gWk71dC4_WuVzmRHPnyQXXD5Sd-KXt_bqiI1IgnktRwSNoaMePFbQXtRTH_aeTDEggwEe44-yKujo7yZuuuJv-CYiwle27t0crG4KY7c/s400/D_Halloween.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127889930872114546" />
What an interesting day I had yesterday. Mom and Dad put me in some strange green outfit and took me outside. That wasn't the strangest part, though. Once we got outside, I started seeing small monsters, witches, princesses, monkeys, power rangers, spidermen, and dozens of others. They were all walking up to strangers' doors, knocking on the door, yelling "trick or treat," and then GETTING CANDY! What a strange concept, bothering people at home during dinner time, yelling at them, and getting treats for doing it. Everyone was looking at me and raving about how cute I was. I was so overwhelmed by the whole concept so I did what I do best when I'm confused - I fell asleep. Mom and Dad tell me that my 2-year-old friend Ava who I was out with stayed awake the entire time and came home with an entire pail of candy.

On the downside, I thought I was supposed to be able to eat candy once I had teeth, but Mom and Dad still won't let me even though I have two perfectly functioning teeth. I am 6 whole months old! There is so much going on with me now; I am officially a little person.

I can roll over in all directions, I can sit all by myself, I can get up on my hands and knees, I can get up on my hands and toes, and I can eat solid food. I started on cereals two weeks ago - first rice, then oats, then barley and grain. Next up, veggies. Yummers!

I went on vacation at the beginning of the summer. We were supposed to go to Mexico, but two hurricanes were on their way, so the day before we left Mom and Dad canceled Mexico and we went to Jamaica instead. It was tons of fun - I got to float in the pool, sit under a hut on the beach, and take naps in the resort nursery. I was definitely a hit in Jamaica -- everybody there loved me and wanted to hold me.--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-41611133949467099912007-09-16T19:26:00.001-07:002007-09-16T19:28:35.473-07:00Ready to launchI can now get up on my hands and knees and rock back and forth - I'm ready to spring forward at any moment!--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-51264403919226878112007-09-04T07:38:00.000-07:002007-09-04T07:45:35.584-07:00Five monthsThe big news this month is that I went on my first airplane ride. Mom took me to Maryland to meet her friend Callie and Callie's two boys - Chase and Dane. I cried a little right before the plane took off, but Mom gave me a bottle as we took off and then I fell right to sleep for the entire flight. Next up - Mexico!

One of my favorite new toys is... MY OWN TOES! I like to grab them and roll over or stick them in my mouth. I also like playing peek-a-boo now. Mom or Dad hide behind my dresser while I am on the changing table, then pop their heads out. And I laugh hysterically!

A big change is about to happen in my life. My mom is going back to work to be a lawyer and my daddy is going to stay home with me. Dad's still going to be working some - he already has some freelance design work set up. But Dad says the most fun thing we are going to do is go on outings to take photos that Dad will sell in art fairs next summer. I bet you're going to start seeing some great photos of me now that I'll be with Dad all day!--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-35034799402354463752007-08-30T07:13:00.000-07:002008-12-11T04:05:10.608-08:00Teething<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8E2o7szR1SYSoZsl7fGEitcSUQ_qRFoJkz0cJJMuJptFW1f7teTKFNMxShJRC9lSqrUQhH34-l1QyUzOwPLv7n8x9s3eQObxk3TRRImgdTQ_rTyi2UK3exsW3gGC82VsZwM5GdH9aSHo/s400/teething.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5104497623250712658" />
About two weeks ago, I started drooling a lot and getting a little fussy. Mom thought maybe I was starting to get my teeth in. She checked inside my mouth and found two little white dots on my lower gum - TOOTH BUDS! Mom and Dad say that I'm going to want teeth so I can eat good things like pizza and chocolate cake, but so far I don't like this whole teeth idea. I still haven't actually sprouted a tooth yet, but the white dots are getting more prominent. In the meantime, I love biting on Mom's finger or my cool teething ring.--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-39165335457368277122007-08-05T19:09:00.000-07:002007-08-05T19:17:00.747-07:00Four MonthsWell, I don't normally like to brag, but I am a FUN baby! I am smiling and laughing all the time now. The funniest thing that Mom and Dad do is throw toys in the air. I laugh so hard that I can hardly catch my breath. I'm also having a great time in my jumparoo. Dad just put it together for me and I'm learning how to reach out and push the buttons. Best of all, I can stand in the jumparoo (my favorite position) and bounce up and down.

I went to my first Highland/Murray family reunion on my four month birthday. It was really hot in southern Illinois, but I was a trouper and was hardly fussy all day. I loved meeting so much of Dad's family... and I think they loved meeting me too!--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-78865278540475168752007-07-12T08:29:00.000-07:002008-12-11T04:05:10.853-08:00Week of Firsts<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDyl_Ed6ffXwqRa45CMgzerUI1HIf7nHJZ4MYUG-ECPnDVwNfSWlUh2UZrAnZ5VDrT7coKPJkesu3RU72FA29QxaQ2ImDAURM5B2yX6Apc-QPcn7PZQNlvpVy0x_q3T3MdGexJQbu51_E/s400/Roll_Over.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086334617537307858" />
This picture was taken on Sunday, July 8th right after the first time I rolled over. I was just laying on my back, enjoying staring at all my toys... but then I got bored. I started arching my back and twisting my shoulders. Before I knew it, I flipped over and found myself lying on my stomach. No more leaving me on the couch by myself!

I also went to the zoo and the pool for the first time this week. We went to the Lincoln Park Zoo, and I got to hear the lions roaring. Mom brought me in the pool at Holstein Park by our house. I didn't really know what to think of the pool. I didn't smile and kick and splash, but I didn't cry either. I just sat quietly while Mom walked in the pool with me in her arms.--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1479292914177367733.post-14669942287187525032007-07-03T19:16:00.000-07:002007-07-03T19:23:33.556-07:00Cade and MeLots of people ask what my canine big brother thinks of me. Well, most of the time Cade ignores me. However, I think he does like me. He growls and barks at people a lot more when I'm around... I think he's protecting me. Plus, he comes up in my nursery and naps on the floor by my crib when I am napping. And he comes up and sniffs me when I am crying. But Cade won't ever let me go near him. Normally, when Mom puts me down by Cade, he runs away (that's why you haven't seen any pictures of us together). BUT... I got to pet Cade for the first time this month. This past week, Mom sat down on the floor next to Cade with me on her lap. First, Mom started petting Cade. Then she inched me closer to his belly. Pretty soon, I was close enough to reach out my hand and touch his fur. He didn't run away or anything! Hopefully, this is the start of a beautiful relationship.--Baby Highlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02784032009359601353noreply@blogger.com0
